SOUTHBAY MUSIC SYMPOSIUMWe are in the final stages of preparing for our annual music summer camp, which is a joint venture between us and the El Segundo School District. Once again we are assembling a high-powered team of instructors and clinicians, including UCLA's director of its Wind Ensemble, Pat Sheridan, LA Times critically acclaimed saxophonist Douglas Masek, and Pinnacle Performance--performance coaches for NBA players, Olympians, and military personnel. Click here for details. | Education Director Named "Citizen of the Year" Edie Rice was named the 2011- 2012 Citizen of the Year for El Segundo by the Chamber of Commerce. During the presentation, the the master of ceremonies recited the following: "Edie Rice, Education Director and Associate Conductor of the El Segundo Community Concert Band and Teacher and Assistant Director of Bands at the El Segundo Schools is committed to keeping the music playing in our community. Through her many years of experience daily in the classroom, Edie has developed an amazing capability to help students master performance skills and has earned a strong reputation throughout the community as incredibly gifted in working with children. The parents appreciate her dedication and marvel at the results she has accomplished with each individual student. Edie is a true hero in our El Segundo Community." The award reads: "In recognition of dedicated service to the affairs of the community and for the civic pride demonstrated by numerous contributions for the benefit of all the citizens of Los Angeles County." |
