This year 2 programs are available for Middle School Students.
1. Percussion (Monday and Friday)
2. After School Band (Monday and Wednesday) just go to the Elementary tab to the left.

Percussion Class

No experience necessary

First Class Monday, Sept 25

Meets Weekly every Monday and Friday until Jan 30

Mondays 2-3:00 PM ESHS Band Room

Fridays 3-4 PM ESMS Band Room

$250 Fee includes instruction, drum pad and sticks (some financial aid is available, please contact Edie Rice)

The El Segundo After School Band Program is now in its 21st year with Mrs. Edie Rice as the director. In addition to the ensemble classes, students also receive individualized instruction from professional musicians and accomplished teachers each week.

This program is presented by the South Bay Music Association (a 501c3 corporation)


Kevin Sticht recently graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a Bachelors of Music in Percussion Performance. He spent his time there studying with Todd Miller and has worked with renowned conductors such as Dr. Mitchell Fennell and Dr. Anthony Mazzaferro. Kevin has had an extensive marching career starting in junior high school and totaling to 20 seasons. After he graduated high school, he spent 3 summers with Mandarins Drum & Bugle Corps (2011-2013) and the next 2 summers with 2 summers with Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps (2014-2015), making finals both years. Kevin has also marched in the WGI circuit for the past 5 years. His first year with POW Percussion in 2012 when they were bumped from Open to World Class and the next four years with Pulse Percussion. During this time, he won 2 World Champion titles and was section leader for the cymbal line in 2015 and 2016.



Edie Rice, Education Director and Associate Conductor of the El Segundo Concert Band, earned her master's degree in conducting from Southern Oregon University in 2007. She has devoted her musical career to helping young musicians from age eight through high school develop a passion for music.  She has been teaching elementary band since 1996 and high school since 2000.
In addition to the El Segundo Elementary Band Program, Mrs. Rice is the Assistant Director of the El Segundo High School Band, Director of the new Distinct Advantage Middle Sch
ool Instrumental Music Program and the South Bay Music Symposium each summer.
Through her many years of experience daily in the classroom, Mrs. Rice has developed an amazing capability to help students master performance skills and has earned a strong reputation throughout the community as incredibly gifted in working with children. This is evidenced by her elementary band being filmed by the producer of the Billboard Music Awards as vignettes that were broadcast throughout the national prime-time television show in 1999.
In November 2011 she was named El Segundo's Citizen of the Year for her work with community children.


Dr. Figueiredo received her Bachelor of Arts from the Lisbon Superior School of Music, her Master of Music from Cal State University at Fullerton, and her Doctorate of Musical Arts from UCLA. She studied under Gary Gray, Håkan Rosengren, Nuno Silva, Carlos Alves, and many others. Dr. Figueiredo is adjunct faculty at the Cypress College, California, and a clarinet freelancer throughout the Los Angeles and Orange County areas.
